Continuous Open Bidding

Our Panhellenic Community is excited to connect interested students with our Panhellenic chapters through COB!

“COB” is short for Continuous Open Bidding and is the ongoing recruitment process that occurs outside of the Primary Recruitment process. It can occur anytime a chapter is below total (the largest size a chapter can be at any given point) following the fully structured recruitment process in the fall and will continue into the Spring semester. Summer recruitment is not a process Panhellenic sororities participate in and goes against our national and local policies.

To break it down further… if chapter total—the total number of members an individual sorority is allowed to have, as determined by the College Panhellenic—was set at 100 members, but XYZ sorority only has 92 members, XYZ can participate in COB and pledge up to 100 members. In other words, they are eligible to give out 8 bids during the Continuous Open Bidding process, but no more. Some sorority nationals require their chapters to participate in COB if they are under chapter total in order to balance their numbers. With that said, please know that COB is not a bad thing for PNMs or for sorority chapters! Chapters often fall below chapter total when they have a lot of seniors graduate early at the end of the semester. The great thing about COB is that it is completely informal, rules are much more relaxed for chapters, and all chapters typically do things differently than others which gives you a great opportunity to see their individual personalities shine.

Any woman who wishes to participate is COB may connect with a chapter directly (see Chapter Pages for contact information) to see if they are actively participating in COB or they can reach out to the FSL office who will have record of all chapters eligible to COB new members. Chapters may extend Bids to a potential candidate at any time! While there is no guarantee what chapters will be participating in COB at any given time, we encourage you to connect with us at parecruitment@ecu.edu if you are interested.

Similar to the Primary Recruitment Process, potential candidates will need to meet the GPA requirement of any chapter they are interested in joining and cannot have already received a bid during the Primary Recruitment Process that they rejected.

We look forward to a great recruitment season with YOU!
